Embroidered Diary

Diário Bordado is a collection of four embroidered books, the result of a three-month workshop held at Sesc Santos in 2015, aimed at people aged 60 and over. Conceived as a collective project, the work took shape through weekly sessions in which participants were invited to draw, paint and embroider a self-portrait, depicting their daily lives and their relationship with the sea at Santos.

Some embroideries emerged from shared gestures — like the sea — whilst others were created individually, such as the self-portraits. In every case, the process was characterised by conversation, listening and the exchange of knowledge, making embroidery a space for encounter and memory.
